The Elysian Hills Starter Horse Trials and Schooling Shows are a wonderful opportunity to school both horse and rider. We run the competitions in a very relaxed atmosphere. Every emphasis will be placed on safety, fun and completing courses. Flexible entry options allow you to select from the eventing disciplines of dressage, stadium jumping and cross country. If you are technically eliminated in stadium or cross country, we will allow you to continue as long as you and your horse are considered safe. Time permitting; competitors will be allowed to ride the cross country course and stadium a second time. We want you and your horse to have a positive learning experience. Your trainers, family and friends are welcome to come and share your experience.

This is a true schooling opportunity where you can:

  • add or delete fences/obstacles as needed for you and your horse
  • school young horses and green riders without elimination (with safe riding)
  • have coaches and/or leads on cross country
  • ride stadium and/or cross country a second time (time permitting)

Entry Options:

  • Horse Trial:dressage, stadium jumping and cross country (specify level - placing and ribbons)
  • Combined Test:dressage and stadium jumping (specify level - placing and ribbons)
  • Single Disciplineselect one discipline (i.e. stadium) ride course twice or do two dressage tests (specify tests USEF or USDF)
  • Two Disciplines:create your own combination of disciplines (for example, stadium and cross country)

Divisions:

  • Introductory:Not to exceed 18 inches. Easy logs, very natural elements, lots of room to think between jumps, very easy!! Stadium consists of straightforward rails.
  • Elementary:Not to exceed 2 ft 3 inches. Very basic elements. Coops, roll top, logs, easy walk through water. Stadium primarily all rails.
  • Beginner Novice:Not to exceed 2 ft 7 inches. Excellent for first time at this level. Easy water. Easy ditch. Very natural obstacles.
  • Novice:Excellent for first time at this level. Very natural fences. Water, ditch and banks.
  • Training:Average, some experience at this level. Options offered for more difficult fences.
  • Preliminary:Excellent for first time at this level. Water, banks, combinations, "skinnies", ditch/wall, solid fences.

For Horse Trial entries: Stadium will follow dressage. Stadium competitors will compete in cross country attire and start cross country after finishing the stadium phase. Each division will be judged and placed in accordance with USEA rules.

For Combined Test entries: Stadium will follow dressage and run in conjunction with the same division of Horse Trial entries. Each division will be judged and placed in accordance with USEA rules.

For Dressage Only: You may enter any two tests of choice. Please note we are using a 20 x 40 m ring.

For other entries: Dressage, stadium jumping and cross country will run in conjunction with the same division of Horse Trial entries.

Entry Fees:

  • Horse Trial entries $95 for all divisions
  • Combined Test $75
  • Dressage only (two tests) $75
  • Cross country only $75
  • Stadium only $75
  • Other combination of two phases $75

Entry Submission:

  • Please use separate entry forms for each horse
  • Indicate the show date on the entry form
  • All entries must include a current (within 12 months) Coggins Test
  • Entries must include a signed release form (adult or minor) which is available on the website www.elysianhills.com (see below)
  • All competitors will need to have a signed release prior to receiving competitor packets
  • If you are under the age of 18, please have your parent or guardian sign the release prior to the event and submit with entry or bring to show grounds
  • Please note that no dogs are permitted at the show
  • Make checks payable to "Elysian Hills"

Course Walk: The cross country course will be open for walking after 5:00pm on Friday (for Saturday dates) and 5:00pm Saturday (for Sunday Dates). Please do not block the driveway when you come to walk the course. Stadium will be posted by the morning of the show.

Scratches: We do not refund entry fees for any scratch. Entries that are scratched no less than 24 hours prior to the horse trial date may be used as a credit for any horse trial in the same year. No phone scratches. All scratches must be made via email.

There will be no food service vendor on the grounds. Please bring your refreshments for the day. Picnics are permitted and encouraged.

Please be supportive of other competitors and please thank the volunteers. They are giving you their time and assistance.

Please note that for the safety of competitors NO DOGS and NO SMOKING are permitted at any time on Elysian Hills premises.

  • No dogs permitted on the grounds at any time under any circumstances (this includes in your car or trailer or crate)
  • We will have to ask you to leave if you bring a dog
  • Please make sure your trainers, family and friends are aware that they are welcome but their dogs must stay at home
  • No smoking on the grounds at any time

Cross Country Schooling: Cross country course open for schooling by appointment only. $35 per horse. Please, no dogs and no smoking. To schedule an appointment, please email cbrickley@wildblue.net
